The site for this project is located within the new Dundee Waterfront development, more specifically at the City Quay. The client is a speculative developer interested in the redevelopment of the Dundee Waterfront. Each student was allocated one of the 60 plots available. As the architect we set our own ‘Target Market’. This market research would determine exactly what we were designing: The houses may be subdivided or arranged to provide a range of accommodation: townhouse, duplex, apartment, live/work studios, etc. After the market research I chose to design a Work/Rest unit aimed for a Professional Couple. Using the urban street we are to explore cultural and social aspects of the built environment: public and private, individual and community, ownership and territory, interior and exterior.
Design constraints:
The plot size is 10.5 meters long by 5 meters wide.
The building footprint is 9 meters long by 5 meters wide.
